About MTS
Psychology is the science of the brain and behavior. We constantly learn information from our surroundings, analysis, interpret, consider and take them into action. This process is based on history we have learned, our experiences and culture.
The effect of cultural elements in the treatment was for the first time considered in the United States in the 1970s. For decades, research has shown how important these skills are to understand the patient and to form a therapeutic alliance.
Today, Sweden is a multicultural society, and it requires a multi-cultural perspective to be able to meet everyone’s needs, especially when it comes to mental health.
Another valuable element in treatment is common language between therapist and patient. A large proportion of immigrants in Sweden have difficulty expressing themselves in Swedish, while their native language is the nearest language for expressing their feelings. One can learn many different languages, but the emotional language of each individual is always native language.
MTS, in addition to cultural knowledge, offers examination and treatment in several different languages.
MTS offers companies and staffs who work with refugees, consultation and training.
Hi!
My name is Reza Hanifi. I was born in Iran. As a 25-year-old, I immigrated to Sweden. The immigration process took three years. After I was granted permanent residence, I completed my study at a school for adults. I continued my study in psychology program at the University of Stockholm. Currently, I am engaged in a special training in the field of clinical psychology.
I have worked for many years with adults as well as children and young people with different cultural backgrounds.
I have often witnessed how cultural differences and misinterpretation of body language or gestures have caused conflicts between staff and patients or sabotaged treatment. Both staff and patients become frustrated and distraught when communication fails.
I have always felt the need for an individualized assessment and treatment that is applied after the patient’s cultural background and language ability. As well as to help staff to respond to and understand patients better in terms of their cultural differences.
Following the immigration wave in 2015, the idea of MTS was developed and we are now happy to announce that we are already able to offer treatment and education to individuals as well as to companies in Stockholm and Jönköping.
